Goodbye Toronto

Ottawa and beyond....

Desiree

We both finished work on the 29th of September, then it was pretty much pack up and say our good bye’s before hitting the road to Ottawa.

This is our Odometer on leaving Toronto

We left early in the morning of the 5th October and reached Ottawa in good time.
Our trusted vehicle for the trip a “Dodge Magnum Station wagon” care of Thrifty Rental.

Ottawa was beautiful. Parliament was boring but the old buildings were awe inspiring, th city has a certain charm about it.

One night in Ottawa and the next afternoon we started our journey west.

First stop was North bay, then Sudbury for an overnight break.
The length of our lovely wagon and the stunning tints in the covering all back windows made it an excellent bed for the night.

Today we have just arrived in Nipigeon 1400 kilometers from Ottawa. It is 8 o’clock.
We drove all day, only taking short food breaks in the hick towns along the highway.
The limited population is shared by small town folk (and in some cases “hard core white trash”) and first nation people (Indian’s). The Indian culture or “lifestyle” is prominent through out the countryside.

Driving along the top of Lake Huron and Lake Superior has been really neat, the scenery is picturesque and the population is dwindling.
The tops of both lakes are littered with bays, slow flowing rivers and small lakes; it must be amazing here in summer. But being October and the start of Fall the temperature is hanging in the low teens and dropping to freezing in the evenings. I am glad we won’t be here in another couple of months.

Such a refreshing change from the grayness and hustle of city living, at the moment we are thousand’s of kilometers from a city. It is a great feeling driving on empty roads with nothing but nature surrounding us.

Tomorrow, more of the same – Chasing the sun.
